Artist: Park Nung Saeng Dates: Dec. 17 (Sat.), 2011 - Jan. 30 (Sun.), 2012 Opening and artist talk: Dec. 17 (Sat.) 5pm, 2011 Closed on Every Monday 작가글 도 시都市 -도시는 인간의 필요에 의해 창조된 공간이기에 그 공간을 구성하는 그 어떤 요소들 보다도 인간의 중요성은 절대적인 것이야 할것이다  인간들은 욕망이 만들어낸 거대한 도시공간 속에서 우리의 삶의 방향을 읽어버리고 마는 처량한 신세가 되어버렸다  각자의 삶에 대한 견해는 다양할수 있겠지만 어느 누가 이도시 이면에 자리잡은 어두운 감정과 생각들을 부정할수있을까  도시는 과거와 현재와 미래가 공존 한다 .이미 철거되거나 철거중인 달동네, 재건축 아파트, 옥상위에 노랗고 파란 물탱크, 현대식 건축물과 과거의 기와집, 정체된 거리, 도심의 변두리를 지키며 서있는 초소 등 온갖 이질적인 풍경의 지점들이 아무렇지도 않게 뒤섞여서 공존하며 무표정으로 나에게 다가온다. 특히 서울 도시의 풍경은  한강을 중심으로 수많은 다리 와 현대화로 인한 다양한 이질적인 기하학적 건물들의 형태들로 빼곡히 들어서서 거대한 도시 숲을 이룬다  나는 오르고, 걷고, 달리고, 관찰하고, 호흡하면서 또한 실경(實境)을 통한 철저한 사생으로서  흔적을 남긴다. 나의 정신(精神)은 눈과 몸으로 당대의 풍경, 스쳐지나간 풍경, 공간을 형상화하고 실제 대상들과 매 순간 만난 상황을 드러내는 것이다. 자연自然 - 산에 오르면서 산의 능선과 현대의 복잡한 도심의 고층건물의 선이 서로 차갑고 다르지만 그 기운의 움직임이 느껴지는 유기적인 선과 인간의 얇은 재주로 제법 그럴싸하게 지어 올린 고층건물들의 기하학적인 선에서 인간의 욕망의 높이가 얼마나 허무한지 느껴본다 .산에서 인간은 많은 것들을 얻어가며 문명의 역사를 이어 오고 있다 . 그것은 신성한 종교로부터 일상적인 삶의 터전으로까지 산은 우리에게 우주적 경험을 전해주는 대상이다. 그 유전적 원형이 잠들어 있는 곳으로서의 신성한 공간, 다양한 생명의 울림을 담고 있는 순수한 공간, 대지의 요동과 자연의 기운을 능선과 골짜기에 그대로 보존하고 있는 산을 그리는 것은 개인적 체험에서부터 출발하는 사유의 체계를 통해 느껴지는 자연의 원형을 드러내는 것이며 나의 정신(精神)을 찾는 것이기도 하다 원근법 보다는 평면성을 따르면서 일루전도 투시법도 아닌 바로 나 자신의 몸과 눈으로, 당대의 풍경에서 느끼는 공감각을 그림에 기입하고자 한다. 그것은 일종의 자신의 눈과 정신을 더듬이 삼아 모든 현실풍경을 추적하고 그 세부에 까지 가 닿고 소소한 정경까지 아우르며 단순한 대상의 재현이 아닌 통감각적인 풍경의 드러냄이다. 일종의 풍경 도감이자 기록적인 시각 재현 파노라마 형식으로 담아내는 것이다 Artist Statement   City(都 市) - Past, present, and future coexist. Demolished hillside town, reconstructed apartment complexes, blue and yellow water tanks on top of the building, modernized office buildings, and houses made of ancient bricks all coexist in my mind expressionlessly. Surrounding the Han River, especially the landscape of Seoul is consisted of numerous bridges and various modernized, dynamic skyscrapers along with an enormous urban forest. As I climb, walk, run, observe, and breathe, I try my best to sketch the actuality(實境) of the city in my mind. My mind(精神) depicts the present and the past’s scenery and demonstrates the actual objects and surrounding circumstances through the eyes and the body.   Nature(自然) - As I climb up the mountain, I notice the significant difference between the mountain’s ridge and the skyscrapers’ height. When I examine the building’s human constructed high altitude, I realize how meaningless to have such high desires in life. Throughout the history, mountain has contributed a lot to humans. As a spiritual idol and a basis in our daily life, mountain has delivered us a universal experience. Mountain is a sacred space with a generic origin, a pure space filled with diverse sounds of creatures, and a natural space all around. For me, depicting mountain is unveiling the nature’s origin through personal experiences and discovering my mind(精神). Rather than a picture in perspective, I prefer a picture in synesthesia. It is neither illusion nor perspective representation. It is portraying what I feel through my own body and eyes. It is not just an object’s simple reproduction. Rather it is a manifestation of a sensual landscape which puts together one’s eyes and mind that pursue all the actual landscape in every detail.
