Chung Hye Ryung solo exhibition June 25 (Sat.) to July 20 (Wed), 2011 Artist talk: June 25 (Sat.) 6pm, 2011 Open hours: 11am to 6pm Closed on every Monday 사라지는 것들과 함께 사라지는 그녀의 작업……. 정혜령의 작업들을 보며 - 정 혜령의 작업들은 일종의 퍼포먼스에 가깝다. 퍼포먼스라는 것은 몸을 가지고, 행위를 가지고, 공간의 자취를 남기게 하는 것이 아닌가? 조형성에 입각한 정신적인 화면 구성이 퍼포먼스에서는 몸이라는 것으로 대치되고, 만들어서 남겨지는 가치를 퍼포먼스에서는 그 행위로 사라지게 하는 것은 아닐까? 모든 미술이 새로움을 보여주기 위해 만들어지고 그 조형적 가치로 팔려지고 미술관에 소장되는 것만이 미술이 보여줄 수 있는 통로의 전부인가? 그녀의 작업을 처음 본 것은 100여년 된 허름한 건물의 옥상에 있는 연탄 광에서 부서진 연탄들이 하나의 새가 되어 날아가려는 광경이었다. 상냥한 안내판도 없이 주변에 버려진 판자들과 낡은 건물의 연탄 광의 풍경과 그녀의 작업은 주변과 분리되어 드러나기 보다는 그냥 주변의 것들과 별 다를 것 없이 그냥 그곳에 있었다. 카스퍼 쾨니히(Kasper Koenig, 쾰른 루트비히 미술관장)는 언제가 이런 말을 한 것으로 기억한다. ‘예술은 그 작품이 예술이냐? 아니냐? 의 문제가 아니라, 그 작품이 어디에 있느냐? 의 문제이다.’ 예술이, 미술작품이 단독적으로 자신만의 입장을 이야기 하는 공허한 소리는 이제 상업성과 제도적 전략을 잃고서는 그 존재감을 피력할 길이 없어졌다고 생각한다. 그렇다고 형이상학적 미학을 들이대는 것도 철지난 이야기 일뿐이다. 그럼 우리는 어떻게 작업을 그곳에서 드러내야 할 것인가? 현재 필자의 견해로는 그 작품과 그곳에 대한 관계성뿐이다. 공간이 가지고 있는 그곳의 시간, 문화, 특이성, 감수성 등등의 것들 가운데 서있는 작품으로서, 그 작품이 그곳의 감추어진 이야기들을 다시 들어내 보일 때 그 작업은 그 공간과 함께 그 의미를 회득할 수 있을 것이다. 정혜령의 작품은 조형적 가치를 내세우는 작업이 아니라, 공간에서 사라져 가는 것들의 진혼곡을 불러주는 매개자로서의 무당과도 같은 행위를 하고 있는 것이다. 이것은 백남준이나 요셉 보이스(Joseph Beuys)와 같은 맥락 안에 있지만 그들이 제도권안의 공간에서 연출된 것이라면 그녀의 작업은 그 공간이 어디이던 그녀만의 몸짓으로 사라져가는 것들을 사라지게 하면서 보이는 행위를 계속할 것이다. 윤제-포천아트밸리 예술감독 Her work has disappeared with something gone- Yun Jae   Watching Chung Hye Ryung's work -   Chung Hye Ryung's works are a kind of performance. Is performance leaving traces of space with body and act? Is it right that the composition of a picture by formativeness would be replaced as a body at the performance, and the worth which is made and left is something disappeared by the action at the performance? Is it all passage what art can show us that all art pieces are made for being showed newness, and it is sold with formative worth and being a collection of art museum?   The first scene to watch her work was that the broken briquette from mine was ready to be a flying bird on the rooftop of rough building which is around one hundred year old. There was no guide board, and the scattered planks, the scene of briquette place and her work were just be there likewise others around there rather than it is divided and showed from surroundings.    Kasper Koenich said like this some day. "The art is not the problem about that the piece is art or not, but about that where the piece is". I think that the airy sound of the art and the pieces to say about their position has no more way to express their existence without a commercial viability and an institutional strategy. And it also will be a story of past to tell about metaphysical esthetics. So how should we expose the work there? In my opinion, there is only a relationship between the piece and the space. When the art piece re-shows its hidden story about the space as the piece which stands in the middle of the space's time, culture, particularity, sensitivity, etc, the work will get the meaning with the space.    Chung Hye Ryung's works are not a work to show its formative worth, but it acts like a shaman as a medium to sing a requiem for something gone from the space. This is on the same line with Nam June Paik or Joseph Beuys, but the difference is that their works are directed in the space of institution but her work will keep doing her act to make something gone with her own action at anywhere she works.  Yun Jea-Pocheon Art Valley Executive Director
